SHEEN Legendary Weekend Experience – April 28-30, 2017 was a weekend to remember for SHEEN readers, celebrities, and partners as they celebrated celebrated “Black Power Excellence,” at the prestigious Marriott Marquis Hotel, Atlanta, Georgia.

RECAP: The Ultimate Beauty Blogger Experience

SHEEN Magazine’s Legendary Weekend Event kicked off on Friday, April 28th at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, GA with their first annual Ultimate Beauty Blogger Experience: a digital play that included social media influencers from across the country. The event began with bloggers joining SHEEN staff for a light breakfast and chat before groups headed down to enjoy a full-service spa experience, with everything from massages to manicures to facials.

Social influencers like Claire Sulmers from Fashion Bomb Daily, Media/Marketing Genius Juanita Davis, Kristen from The Shade Room, Xaviera from Ice Cream Convos, radio personality Tony Carter, and NeShanta from Style-Is-She were all a part of the experience that both treated and honored guests with gifts from haircare line Creme of Nature, skincare line Akura Wellness, and adult beverage line, First Class Vodka.

The afternoon ended with a luncheon with keynote speaker, Claire Sulmers, speaking about her rise in the fashion industry and taking advantage of the digital platforms that have given way to this new batch of african-american social innovators. Industry veteran and marketing guru, Juanita Davis, was honored as the Sheen Magazine Beauty Innovator for her achievements in the beauty, entertainment and media industries.

 

RECAP: Shades of Blackness Fashion Show

Later that Friday evening, Sheen Magazine and Chapman Foundation, Inc. hosted its annual fashion show at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta. The show brought out stars and guests who came to see designs from Robert Rison, Fancy by Francesca Watson, Michele Blanchard Gallery, Threaded Culture, Our Glass Collection, funkinbeautiful, The Queen’s Chair, and more. The show has served as a fundraising event throughout the years by providing scholarships to minority students pursuing higher education.

Social media bloggers from the Atlanta area were also in attendance and front row for the fashion show, curating and updating their pages with the hashtags #SheenLegendaryWeekend and #ShadesOfBlackness on Instagram. Celebrity guests like Fashion Bomb Daily‘s editor in chief Claire Sulmers, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Marlo Hampton, Married to Medicine’s Genise Shelton, singer Meelah, Cutting it in the ATL star Mushiya Tshikuka, L.A. Hair‘s Gocha Hawkins and more showed up for a night featuring surprise performances from theatrical group, Scandalous Hair. The night closed out and transitioned into the Red Party with girl group, The GG’s, kicking off the show and DJ Puff following suit.

Saturday Empowerment Panel and Fireside Chats with “Braxton Family Values” Trina Braxton and “Thicker Than Water” Jewel Tankard

On Saturday, April 29th, before the gala, guests had the opportunity to enjoy inspired words from the empowerment panel that featured real estate mogul Melody Holt, hairstylist Cynthia Meadows, makeup artist and owner of the Glamatory Mimi Couture and Brandon Sims. Each of them openly shared their thoughts on and struggles with being entrepreneurs.

​Following the panel was a fireside chat with Braxton Family Values’  Trina Braxton as she discussed her new venture as a bar owner and life as a single woman. Thicker Than Water’s Jewel Tankard was there, candidly talkeing about love and business.

RECAP: Celebrity & Beauty Innovator Honoree Tea

Day 2 – After the Empowerment session and Fireside chat with Jewel Tankard and Trina Braxton, invited guests attended a special afternoon tea session with celebrities like Marlo Hampton, Karli Harvey Raymond, Ben Raymond, Catherine Brewton and more to honor innovators in the beauty industry.

RECAP: The Kimmie Awards Black Tie Gala

Day 2 – Later that evening, Sheen Magazine’s Legendary Weekend Event ushered in a fabulous night filled with entertainment, surprise guests and outstanding fashion. The third annual gala awarded its first Kimmie Award, a nod to Sheen’s founder and publisher Kimberly Chapman, in which creatives and business-oriented professionals are honored in their respective fields.

Sheen Magazine managing editor, London Alexaundria and art director, Jessica Williams presented the Creative Arts Awards to celebrity fashion stylist, Troy Clinton, master hairstylist, Cynthia Meadows, makeup artist Kiara Omaras, and photographer Will Sterling.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star and style expert, Marlo Hampton presented Catherine Brewton, Vice President of Broadcast Music, Inc. with the Music & Arts awards which honors individuals with a background in the music/art industry that have accomplished milestones in their field and have gone on to help the creative community in the process.

​James and Bernard Bronner were presented the Outstanding Entrepreneurial Achievement award for their work in the hair and beauty industry with their company, Bronner Brothers.

With Woman of the Year honoree, actress Vivica A. Fox taking home the Kimmie Award that is set to honor women in the creative or entrepreneurial fields who have accomplished significant milestones and continue to make strides within the African-American community, empowering future leaders.

Recap: Empowerment Brunch Closes out Legendary Weekend

It’s safe to say that Sheen Magazine’s Legendary Weekend was a success! SHEEN closed out the weekend with an Empowerment Brunch and it was  packed with entertainment and heartfelt words from all of our special guests. From Vivica A Fox to Melody Holt, we couldn’t have celebrated the finale of such a great weekend any better. We also were honored to have Gospel singer, Arrianne Keelen bring down the house and provide the entertainment. The exclusive gathering was sponsored by none other than Mielle Organics and we like to thank Monique Rodriguez for being gracious enough to present all of the attendees with gift bags! Publisher, Kimberly Chapman and Editor-in-Chief, Sammi Haynes concluded the event in style as always. There couldn’t have been a better ending to such a legendary weekend!
