March for Our Lives: Students Break the Silence on Gun Control

Whats in this story

On Saturday, March 24th, 2018, hundreds of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in major cities across the U.S. to call for stricter gun laws. The event was organized by students and survivors of the Parkland School shooting, where a shooter left 17 dead and a nation in mourning, once again. After the unprecedented success of the national school walkout this past month, momentum began to build easily with celebrities, teachers, and students coming together to speak out about gun control in the country. The main event was in Washington, D.C. where crowds gathered to hear speeches from survivors of the shooting in Florida, as well as survivors from shooting across the nation.

The demonstrators did face a few groups of counter- protesters, who marched in defense of their second amendment rights, but the marches remained peaceful, with students holding up signs that read, “Enough is Enough”. The question is, will the march change things? Well, it’s got the nation talking, that’s for sure. Conversations have been ongoing since the students from Parkland have boldly spoken out. Is gun control the issue that politicians are just not willing to deal with? The ball is in the lawmaker’s court now. Were they listening? Time will tell.
