Why do the majority of African Americans vote democrat?

Whats in this story

Let’s talk about Donald Trump. I mean, let’s talk about Republicans. Or better yet, let’s talk about black folks and the Republican Party. In 1865, something historic occurred. That thing was the passing of the Emancipation Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln. That’s right. All six feet four inches of “honest Abe” signed what was arguably the most important document for the black race. It was the document that directed the trajectory upward towards freedom land. It was the piece of paper that unshackled the chains off of their tired ankles. And it was all done by a white, Republican president.

Fast forward to the 21st century, and the prospect of a Republic president, black or white, governing black folks is akin to the revocation of the Emancipation itself. Even Ben Carson received zero love from the collective black, which debunks the “blacks for blacks” Obama theory. It’s “blacks for Democrats”. Period. Even if the Dems cheated on their wives, committed fraud, endorsed questionable prison legislation, smacked their cousin “Pookie”, or sold their firstborn. Blacks simply vote democratic.

Now, it is true that the Federal government – comparatively the right favors a state-run government – has had a history of breaking down detrimental laws for blacks, such as “separate but equal” and upholding laws that have inspired their justice, as in the Shelley v Kraemer decision. But does this mean that black folks should create a voting bloc even at the sacrifice of – in some cases – better economic policies?

And then there’s religion. If there were something that black folks love more than the Dems, it’d be Christianity.  This can be validated by a simple perusal of the research, which suggests the lead black folks have in religious devotion as compared to other races (pewforum.org). Love for the “black church” is right up there with love for the Dems. Contrarily though, the Dems are known to have policies and beliefs that directly conflict with Christian values. Yet the Blue Party is frequently painted black.

But why?

Why do black folks have so much loyalty to the Blue Party? Why is it that black folks are automatically pegged as sell-outs or Uncle Toms when they dare exercise their hard-fought right to vote for a republican candidate?

It almost makes it too easy for the Democratic Caucus. They know they will get the black vote with just a little pandering, just a little swag. I mean Hilary Clinton did the dab. She has a rap nickname, “Ghostface Hillah”. It’s cute. It’s fun. It gets black votes, some of who are in the tax bracket that would logically make them damn good republicans. But it’s not policy. It will not change the economic or social status of black folks. This is not to say that her or other blue candidates haven’t created advantageous policies for blacks in America, but how hard are black folks making democratic candidates work for their loyalty? Or do they have to work at all?

The beauty of the American political system is the freedom for all citizens, black, white, brown, or blue to have a hand in choosing their future political leader. So is it time for black folks to dip their hands in the red bucket for a change? I mean, America is a republic right?
